Next-Gen Consoles: Will Nintendo be First?

According to Edge-online, Colin Sebastian, analyst of Lazard Capital Markets, predicts that the next wave of consoles will be "before 2011, and more likely in 2012."
While this seems to be the norm to us by now, he suggests that Nintendo will make their console first.

"One possible exception to console timing may be Nintendo, which
could opt to upgrade the Wii with faster processing power, DVD
capability and/or greater storage."

He also says that the PS3 will not "gain significant market share until hardware prices reach mass market levels."

T.J.'s response:

Well I knew the big three were planning their next consoles already, and them coming out in late 2011 or 2012 seems on schedule with the norm; but Nintendo? Really? They can't even keep enough Wii's on the shelves for people to buy right now; for them to release an upgraded system before 2011 seems to be stretching it for me. I'm also a bit worried about the Big N's new system. I'm 90% sure they will make the new system backwards compatible with the Wii's technology, but they're just constantly talking about evolving games and going into new territory. Hopefully they won't announce a new system with different technology just as they are able to keep up with the demand for Wii's. Time will tell.

Tim's Response:

Maybe Nintendo just wants to make Animal Crossing VR already damnit.
